I Tried Buck Mason For Classic, Quality Staples (2025 Review)

|

Summary: Buck Mason crafts high-quality, low-impact staples with minimalist, timeless designs made to last. The in-store hemming service was honestly delightful, and the overall experience felt much less like going into a store and more like being received in a gorgeous California living room. Each piece from the brand is extremely wearable and versatile, something I could imagine might slip easily into any wardrobe.

What I Love:

  • I love that Buck Mason creates high-quality, timeless staples that are made in the USA and in Fair Trade factories. The brand’s craftsmanship really stands out.
  • I appreciate the thoughtful details Buck Mason includes, like the vintage-inspired snaps on their tanks that hold bra straps in place—such a clever feature that makes layering effortless and comfortable.
  • Each piece I tried was extremely wearable and versatile, making it easy to imagine them slipping into any wardrobe.
  • The in-store hemming service was honestly delightful, and the shopping experience felt more like visiting a gorgeous California living room than your typical store. If you have a chance to shop Buck Mason in person, do it!

Things To Note:

  • I found that most of Buck Mason’s women’s clothes are too big for petites, so I had to size down in almost everything.
  • At first glance, I was surprised to see everything wrapped in plastic bags. I would have loved to see less plastic and more personal touches in the packaging.

Buck Mason was founded by Sasha Koehn and Erik Allen Ford in 2013, launched as a gentleman’s clothing company rooted in timeless classics. Locally made jeans and high-quality tees became their cornerstone as they began crafting functional clothing that would withstand the test of time.

Finding a brand that’s made in the USA is not an easy task. Buck Mason’s story showcases one way that a new American brand can forge their way. The brand acquired a 100-year-old knitting mill in Pennsylvania that was on the verge of shutting down for good. They bought the mill and hired the craftsman who had worked there for generations. Buck Mason also grows their own cotton in California, Texas, and Georgia. As the brand puts it, “From cotton grown and spun in America to our new mill in Mohnton, Pennsylvania, every step of the Buck Mason Knitting Mills process is domestic.”

I like to think of Buck Mason as the Levi’s for a new generation — a brand that creates high-quality, low-impact staples for your closet. These small-batch clothes are produced in the USA and in Fair Trade factories around the world. It’s a brand for everyone’s style — a household name for those seeking high-quality essentials. For years, Buck Mason held strong with their men’s wear, but in 2021, they launched their women’s collection with the same focus on creating long-lasting staples.

Our editors love high-quality closet staples. So, we decided to try their women’s collection and I even tried their in-store hemming service, which was honestly delightful. (You can read more about that below.)

Shipping + unboxing

Buck Mason is a minimalist brand. Their clothes are straightforward and come without any frills. So when the clothes arrived in a single, small box, I couldn’t wait to open it and try it all on!

At first glance, I did find it surprising to see everything wrapped in plastic bags. Since most of their clothes are made in the USA, it would have been great to have seen less plastic and more personal touches. But the clothes were folded with great care, and after unwrapping each, I laid them all out on my bed. My first thought was how soft and well-crafted each piece was. 💛

Tanks

The first try-on was the Surplus Rib Scoop Neck Tank ($45, S, Marled Birchwood). Right away, I knew this piece would be a go-to for summer. It’s very soft. The cotton/spandex blend gives it a structured but lightweight feel. One thing I love about Buck Mason is that they draw significant inspiration from vintage clothing in all their creations. They have a beautiful collection of tank styles in different textures. You’ll notice vintage-inspired snaps on their tanks. These hold the bra straps so they don’t slip and fall under, which is so clever! It’s one reason I rarely wear a tank. But I’ll be wearing this tank as a layering piece or alone on hot days all the time.

Henleys

Since becoming a mother of two little ones, my daily wardrobe reflects a new lifestyle. I no longer have the time or mental space to think about creating a complicated outfit. It has to be quick, but one that still makes me feel put together. This is exactly why I couldn’t wait to try their Heirloom Rib Base Henley ($78, S, Marsh Fern). I wanted an all-season top that would make me feel more put together than a regular tee.

I adore this top! Everything from the fit to the color is perfect. I find myself wanting to wear it on a daily basis. It’s a fitted military-inspired style, crafted from a blend of recycled cotton with a textured rib. I may need to get this top in every color to have one in rotation at all times.

Sweaters

Living in Colorado, it’s a must to have plenty of sweaters on hand for every season. I couldn’t wait to try this Soft Spun Cotton Collared Cardigan ($238, S) as a spring and summer layering piece.

This buttery-soft cotton sweater has a relaxed, cropped fit. It’s ideal for chilly outdoor lake concerts. You can also snuggle up wearing it by the fire with a warm cup of tea. This sweater is pretty thick but somehow also lightweight. The quality is no doubt heirloom. You can also dress up or dress down the fit and style. My go-to will be wearing it with jeans, but I can also wear it over a spaghetti-strap dress or skirt.

Button-downs

Everyone needs a white button-down in their wardrobe. I had to try Buck Mason’s classic Mainstay Cotton Shirt ($138, XS). It’s a classic design, inspired by midcentury men’s shirting. I adore how this shirt fits! It’s effortless and looks great worn open with the rib scoop tank or buttoned up and tucked into jeans. It’s another one of those pieces I’ll be reaching for daily.

Jackets

Let me introduce you to the Rider Jacket. She’s bold, she’s cool, and she makes you feel like you want to get your motorcycle license. I ordered a size small in Natural to go with the matching Rider Jean in the same color (more on that below). I love the look of an all-white denim set. I’ll be living in it this summer.

This jacket has a different fit than a typical denim jacket. This design takes cues from vintage mechanic uniforms. It has a structured style that feels like a collared shirt. The zipper, instead of buttons, detail also gives it a unique style. As a petite person, I love the back tabs that allow for a more fitted waist. I usually prefer an oversized fit, but this jacket looks best in a smaller size. I wish I’d grabbed an extra small for a more fitted look. I’ll still be throwing it on with everything this summer.

Jeans + In-store hemming experience

As we know, jeans can be tough to buy without trying them on first. Having no idea how Buck Mason jeans fit, I ordered my typical size 26 in the Rider Jean. Upon trying them on, they were huge! Not only around the waist, but also very long through the leg. I’m 5’4″ and weigh 115 for reference.

Luckily, Buck Mason offers free in-store hemming services for their clothing! They have stores all over the country, including one in Denver near me. After setting up an appointment with their in-store manager, I headed to the store. I rarely shop in person unless I’m secondhand shopping, so this felt like an extra special adventure. As I entered the shop in Denver’s upscale Cherry Creek mall, I felt taken aback.

Brian, the effortlessly chic store manager, greeted me. He welcomed me in with a smile and made me feel like I’d arrived at his home.

Walking into the store felt much less like a shop and more like a gorgeous California living room. The first thing I saw was a circular leather couch with a coffee table in front, stacked with books. On the walls were black-and-white pictures of the California coast or a cool person riding a motorcycle. The store’s design effortlessly weaves in the clothes. They looked like art pieces, hung thoughtfully and folded neatly in the built-ins along the walls. I was also struck by the beautiful smell of the store. The classic California Palo Santo wafted through my nostrils.

“The store’s design effortlessly weaves in the clothes. They looked like art pieces, hung thoughtfully and folded neatly in the built-ins along the walls.”

While I browsed the store, I spotted more large wooden tables piled high with lovely coffee table books. Brian informed me that all the books are for sale. I found this to be such a cool, unique touch. Another unique feature includes two dry bars tucked into the built-ins on separate walls of the shop. Brian explained they want shopping to feel just like being at home. If a customer asks for a drink, they will gladly pour a glass.

After many minutes of admiring the store’s beauty, Brian revealed it was designed by Leanne Ford. She’s an award-winning interior designer and an HGTV personality. Plus, every Buck Mason store around the country showcases her artistry.

“He has a deep passion and knowledge about the brand that provided me with the best shopping experience I’ve ever had.”

It was time to head to the dressing room. I needed to try on new sizes for my jeans, and Brian also found some other styles for me to try. I adored playing dress-up and chatting with Brian. He has a deep passion and knowledge about the brand that provided me with the best shopping experience I’ve ever had. I found that most of Buck Mason’s women’s clothes are too big for petites, so I had to size down in almost everything.

But once we found the right jean fit, it was time for the hemming. Brian took precise measurements of the jean length. He helped me choose the best fit based on my daily shoes. It only takes a couple of days to finish the hemming, and they shipped the jeans straight to my house.

With their roots are in menswear, the pieces I tried reflected the sort of sturdy crafstmanship and quality design meant to last through the ages. Each piece was extremely wearable and versatile, something I could imagine might slip easily into any wardrobe — no matter your style.

While the shipping experience was great, my in-store shopping excursion was the highlight of my introduction to Buck Mason. I felt lucky to truly experience the brand in such a hands-on way with customer service that was old school, just like their craftsmanship. If there’s a store near you, I can’t recommend it enough!
